What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the machine is used daily or parked in a store room.
Brushes, squeegees and batteries decide the lifespan
These wear out on a schedule and they are the reason cleaning machines get abandoned. Ask what a set of brushes and a squeegee blade cost and whether they are a standard size available here. A machine with proprietary consumables becomes disposable the moment the importer stops stocking them.
The battery is the most expensive part to replace
On a battery scrubber the battery pack is a large share of the cost and it will need replacing before the machine does. Ask the type, the capacity, and — most importantly — whether an equivalent is available locally. Lithium costs more up front and usually less over its life.
Size on your shift, not on the floor area
A scrubber that cleans your whole floor on paper but needs a recharge halfway through the shift will not get used. Work out the actual cleaning window you have and size the tank and battery to complete it in one run.
The floor decides the brush and the machine
Sealed concrete, tiles, epoxy and rough industrial floors need different brushes, different pressure and sometimes different machines. Tell us the surface and whether it has drains and thresholds, because a beautiful machine that cannot get over a door strip is useless.
Check voltage and charging before you order
South Africa runs 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase at 50 Hz, and so does most equipment built for 50 Hz markets. Cable machines are straightforward; the thing to confirm on battery machines is that the charger matches your supply and where it will live.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Budget for a relationship with a good local technician, and buy with that in mind — which is an argument for machines using standard batteries, motors and brush sizes.
Facility managers ask these
Will it run on South African power?
Yes, if it is specified correctly — we specify 50 Hz equipment for a 50 Hz country, and chargers are supplied for our voltage. We confirm voltage against your actual installation before ordering, and we tell you what the charging point needs to be.
Can I get brushes and squeegees for it here?
That is the first thing we check, because it decides whether the machine is still in service in three years. Where a machine uses a standard brush size we say so; where it uses something proprietary we say that too, and usually recommend a different machine.
Battery or cable?
Cable is cheaper and never runs flat, but the lead limits where you can clean and creates a trip hazard in public areas. Battery is the right answer for large open floors and anywhere with the public present. Tell us the site and we will say which we would choose.
How long do the batteries last?
It depends on the type and how they are charged, which is why we ask about your charging routine rather than quoting a number. What matters more is whether a replacement is available locally at a sensible price, and that we confirm before quoting.
