What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the line runs at the speed it was sold at.
Size on your line, not on the brochure
A filler rated at sixty units a minute is rated in a laboratory with one product and one bottle. Your throughput is set by the slowest machine in the chain, which is usually the labeller or the operator loading it. Tell us the real number you need at the end of the line and we size backwards from there.
The bottle decides the machine, not the other way round
Changing container shape after you have bought a labeller is expensive, because the applicator and change parts are specific. Send us the actual bottle, jar, pouch or tray you use — dimensions and a photograph — before we quote anything that touches it.
Film, labels and ink are the ongoing cost
The machine is a one-off; the consumable is forever. A coder that needs a proprietary cartridge can cost more over two years than the machine did. We ask what the consumable is, whether it is available locally, and what it costs per thousand — and we put that on the quote.
Ask how long a size change takes
If you run more than one product, changeover time is a production cost every single day. Some machines change in two minutes with no tools; others need a spanner and half an hour. It rarely appears in the specification, so we ask.
Food contact and coding requirements are local
Anything touching food needs the right contact materials, and what you must print on a pack — batch, date, ingredients — is set here, not by the machine. We specify food-grade contact parts and confirm the coder can print what your labelling rules require.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Budget for a relationship with a good local electrician and fitter, and buy with that in mind — which is an argument for standard PLCs and pneumatics over proprietary control systems.
Producers ask these
Will it run on South African power?
Yes, if it is specified correctly — we specify 50 Hz equipment for a 50 Hz country, so motors, timers and inverters run at the right speed. We confirm voltage and phase against your actual supply before ordering, and we will tell you when a machine needs three phase you do not yet have.
Can it handle my existing bottle or pouch?
That is the first thing we check, because it decides the machine. Send us the container itself or full dimensions and a photograph. Change parts for a different shape are usually available but they are made to order, so it is far cheaper to specify correctly at the start.
Do I need a whole line, or can I start with one machine?
Start with the bottleneck. For most small producers that is sealing or labelling, not filling. Tell us the end state you are working towards so the first machine is compatible with the second — matching conveyor heights and container handling from the start saves a great deal of irritation.
What about spares and consumables?
We ask every supplier which parts they stock and what the consumables cost, and we ship a spares kit with the original order. Seal bars, belts, sensors and heating elements are cheap to send with the machine and expensive to chase afterwards.
