What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the birds, pigs or fish are still healthy after a hot week and a power cut.
Plan for the power cut before you buy
Incubators, fans and aerators must keep running through load-shedding, or you lose a batch in hours. Every quote says what the equipment draws, and we size backup power or generators to it on request.
Heat kills more birds than disease
A broiler house in a South African summer needs real ventilation and evaporative cooling, not a couple of fans. We size fans and cooling pads on the house size and bird numbers, and ask the maker for airflow figures in writing.
Cages and crates rust from the inside out
Manure and cleaning chemicals attack thin coatings fast. Ask for hot-dip galvanising and the coating thickness, not just the word galvanised. It is the difference between ten years and three.
Check what your buyers accept
Some retailers and export buyers now set their own standards for cage systems and animal welfare. Before you invest in layer cages or crates, check what the people you sell to will accept.
Fish farming is a water-quality business
Tanks are the simple part. Oxygen, filtration and temperature decide whether the fish grow. We quote aeration and filtration with the tanks, and suggest a backup aerator for the night a pump fails.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Keep spare motors, nipples, fan belts and thermostats on the shelf, and buy systems built on standard parts a local fitter can source.
Poultry, pig and fish farmers ask these
I'm starting with 5 000 broilers. What do I need?
Housing or a house fit-out, feeders, drinkers, ventilation, brooding heat and backup power. Tell us the house size or whether you need the building too, and we quote a matched set rather than loose parts.
Can the incubator run on solar or a generator?
Yes, if it is sized for it. We give you the power draw and the manufacturer's advice on backup, and can size an inverter or generator to match through our power line.
Do you supply the building as well?
We can supply steel-frame poultry houses as kits. Permanent buildings usually need plans and approval from the municipality, which is yours to arrange.
Do you install?
Delivery is in the landed price. Most equipment is installed by the farmer or a local contractor using the maker's drawings; for large houses the manufacturer can send an engineer at a daily rate plus travel.
