What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the yard produces saleable product or a pile of rejects.
The mould is the product, and it is not free
A block machine makes whatever the mould makes, and every product size is another mould. Moulds wear, and a worn mould produces out-of-spec blocks you cannot sell. Ask the price per mould set, the steel grade and the expected cycle life, and budget for a spare of your highest-volume size.
Rated output assumes everything goes right
A machine rated at four thousand blocks a day achieves that with a good mix, trained operators and enough pallets and curing space to keep up. Your first months will not look like that. Work your costing off a conservative number and treat the rated figure as a ceiling.
The yard is part of the plant
Blocks have to cure somewhere, on pallets, protected, for days. This is the most commonly forgotten part of a block-making project and it determines your real daily output more often than the machine does. Plan the space and the pallet count before you buy.
Local sand and aggregate change the mix and the machine
Compaction, vibration and cement content all depend on the material you actually have. A machine that works on one sand produces crumbling blocks on another. Tell us where your material comes from, and expect to spend the first weeks refining the mix.
Check the connected load and the supply before ordering
South Africa runs 400 V three phase at 50 Hz and plant built for 50 Hz markets matches the frequency. An automatic plant with a mixer, compressor and hydraulics has a substantial connected load, and block making needs steady water. Confirm both against your site.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Budget for a relationship with a good local hydraulics and electrical technician, and buy with that in mind — which is an argument for standard PLCs and cylinders over proprietary systems.
Block yards ask these
Will it run on South African power?
Yes, if it is specified correctly — we specify 50 Hz equipment for a 50 Hz country, so motors and vibrators run at the right speed. Automatic plant has a serious connected load, so we confirm it against your actual supply and transformer before ordering rather than after.
Do the moulds come with the machine?
Usually one set does, and we quote additional sets separately because most yards need more than one product size. Moulds are a consumable with a cycle life, not a permanent fitting, so we tell you the price and the expected life up front.
How many blocks will it really make in a day?
Fewer than the rating, at least at first. The rating assumes a good mix, trained operators and enough pallets and curing space. We would rather give you a conservative number you can build a business on than repeat a brochure figure.
Can it make different sizes and paving too?
Most machines can, with the right moulds, and paving is a good second product because it uses the same mix and the same yard. Tell us every product you want to make and we will confirm which the machine handles and what the extra moulds cost.
